History[edit]

FSG was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 2000 as Foundation Strategy Group by Mark Kramer and Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter.[4] Initially a for-profit organization, FSG focused on providing strategy consulting services to foundations.[4]

Over time, Foundation Strategy Group began to offer services to corporations, nonprofits, and governments and shortened its name to FSG.[4]

FSG became a nonprofit organization in 2006.[1]

In 2009, the organization launched a strategic learning and evaluation division led by Hallie Preskill, former President of the American Evaluation Association.[4]

FSG integrated the former Monitor Inclusive Markets India team from Monitor Deloitte in 2015, establishing an office in Mumbai, India.[5]

In 2018, FSG announced the appointment of two new co-CEOs: Greg Hills and Lauren Smith, MD, MPH.[6]
