Fun88 is a fully registered gaming and entertainment company founded in June 2009. Fun88 has partnered with English Premier League clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Newcastle United F.C., and Burnley F.C., and athletes Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Robbie Fowler.
SPONSORSHIPS[edit]
In 2010, Fun88 signed as “Official Shirt Sponsor” for English Premier League team Burnley F.C.,[1][2]which lasted until 2012. Burnley F.C. has won two England championships, one FA Cup, and two FA Community Shield.[3][4]
In 2012, Fun88 partnered with English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur F.C. as an “Official Asian Betting Partner”. [5][6] The betting portal microsite, Hotspur88, was then launched in 2013. Among Tottenham Hotspur F.C.’s achievements include two league titles, eight FA Cups, four League Cups, seven FA Community Shields, one European Cup Winners’ Cup, and two UEFA Cups.
In 2014, Burnley F.C.’s shirt sponsorship was renewed until 2015[7]. On the same year, Fun88 established the sporting team “Fun88 Racing” with Lamborghini, which competed in GT Asia Championship, and Porsche Carrera Cup. Fun88 also gained its first brand ambassador, Robbie Fowler[8]. Fowler is known as the sixth-highest goalscorer in the history of the Premier League with 162 Premier League goals. He earned the title Liverpool Legend, and the nickname “God”, due to his strong audacity in scoring goals.
In 2015, Fun88 sponsored sports media property, ONE Championship[9] . And its second brand ambassador, Japanese actress, Rola Misaki was signed.
In 2016, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. renewed its partnership with Fun88.[10] [11][12]And NBA player Steve Nash was signed as a brand ambassador. Nash is an eight-time NBA All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, and was named NBA MVP twice. He was named the ninth greatest point guard of all time, by ESPN in 2006. He’s also one of the top players in three-point shooting, free-throw shooting, total assists, and assists per game, in NBA league history.
In 2017, Fun88 sponsored Newcastle United as its “Official Shirt Sponsor”.[13][14][15]
In 2018, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. and Fun88 renewed their partnership.[16][17][18][19]
In 2019, NBA player Kobe Bryant signed as a brand ambassador.[20][21][22][23][24] Bryant has won five NBA championships, a 4-time All-Star MVP, an 18-time All-star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team. He was the youngest player to reach 30,000 career points in NBA league history.[25] Further in 2019, Fun88 also partnered with football leagues, Copa America[26] and La Liga as its digital perimeter advertising partner.

Fun88 was awarded nominations from EGR Awards organized by eGaming Review Magazine, as the "Asian Live Gaming Operator of the Year", "Asian Operator of the Year Nominations for 2009"[27] and "Asian Operator Nominations for 2010".[28]
LICENSING[edit]
Owned by OG Global Access LTD., Fun88 holds a gaming license from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR)[29] , First Cagayan Leisure & Resort Corporation license and certification[30] from Gaming Associates.[31] Fun88 UK, on the other hand, is operated in partnership with TGP Europe Limited. It is licensed by The Gambling Commission of Great Britain (under the Gambling Act 2005), with a self-exclusion system supported by Gamstop.
CONTROVERSIES[edit]
Online gambling in the UK is legal, as long as it is registered under The Gambling Commission of Great Britain, with required age requirement for participants of at least 18 years old. The self-exclusion system has also been approved, being Gamstop as the official system provider. In Asia however, some countries partly allow gambling under their terms.
In April 2019, Vietnam cracked the Fun88 illegal online gambling organization disguised as Fxx88, which involved a total bet of $1.28 billion. The law enforcement agencies confiscated a large number of electronic equipment, luxury cars, large sums of cash and a large number of bank accounts with huge amounts of money in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.[32] [33]
During World Cup 2018, UK Advertising Standards Agency has received a large number of complaints about gambling advertisements[34], and 17% of the TV commercials during this period were gambling advertisements. In August, UK Gambling Commission tightened its advertising regulations and said it would deal severely with the foulers. As of November, British TV station agreed to advertise gambling advertisement at 9 pm and reduce the number of gambling advertisements in between programs.
In July 2019, Fun88 agreed for NUFC to wear a different shirt sponsor for Premier League Asia Trophy, National Sports app. However, the deal sparked controversy as fans of the club claimed that National Sports app is nonexistent, hence, it is related to NUFC owner Mike Ashley's Sports Direct brand. Protests were held in both Newcastle City and China.[35][36][37]
