Federal Point, NC

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Federal Point is a peninsula that separates the Cape Fear River from the North Atlantic Ocean.[1]  In 1930, Federal Point was bisected by the Snow's Cut extension of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The southern tip of Federal Point, below Snow’s Cut, is now an island called Pleasure Island.

The peninsula was named Federal Point in the late eighteenth century as a way to pay homage to the the new Federal government after the American Revolution. During the American Civil War, the name was changed to Confederate Point to honor the breakaway states.  The name reverted to Federal Point after the war.
