Federico Perazza has been serving as Ambassador of Uruguay in Paraguay as well as Honorary President of the Paraguayan -Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce, since February 6th, 2014.

Prior to his current assignment, Ambassador Perazza was appointed Deputy Director General for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2013.

During the years 2011 and 2012 he also served as Director of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay.

Between 2005 and 2011 he was appointed as Minister at the Permanent Delegation of Uruguay to the United Nations (New York). He was member of the Official Delegation of Uruguay in the 60, 61, 62, 63, 64 and 65 sessions of the UN General Assembly.

Perazza served as Uruguay's chief negotiator of the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) between 2006 and 2013. At the Arms Trade Treaty Negotiating Conference (held in New York, April 2013) he had the responsibility to lead (in his capacity as Facilitator and “Friend of the Chair”) the negotiations of the Final Provisions of the Treaty, dealing with, among others issues, dispute settlement, the entry into force of the treaty, amendment procedures, questions related to Signature, Ratification, Acceptance, Approval or Accession, provisional application of the treaty, Duration and Withdrawal, Reservations as well as topics related to the Conference of State Parties.

At UN, he promoted the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Uruguay and more than 30 UN Member States.

Ambassador Perazza was Vice President of the Disarmament Commission twice (2006 and 2010).

Between 2011 and 2008 he served as Coordinator of the Group of Friends of Haiti in New York.

In 2006 he was designated Vice President of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly (Disarmament and International Security).

Between 2002 and 2005 he was a negotiator for environmental issues and President of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) for issues related to the international management of chemical products.

Between 1997 and 2002 he served as First Secretary in the Permanent Delegation of Uruguay to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other international organizations based in Geneva (Switzerland).

Having entered the Uruguayan Foreign Affairs Ministry in 1995, he obtained all his promotions through competitive merit-based examinations.
