Female Pleasure (2018) is a Swiss-German documentary film directed by Swiss director Barbara Miller. The documentary sheds a light on female sexuality in the 21st century around the globe.

Content[edit]

The film sees itself as a plea for the liberation of female sexuality in equal, sensual relationships between the sexes in the 21st century. It accompanies five young women from different cultural backgrounds who stand up against the repression of female sexuality in their cultural and religious communities. The film reveals similarities amongst the different protagonists and shows their struggle for self-determined sexuality. Furthermore, it questions the patriarchal structures and porn culture of our time.[1].

Publishing[edit]

The world premier will take place on August 5, 2018 at the International Film Festival Locarno in the Semaine de la Critique[2]. The film will be released on November 8, 2018 in Germany and Austria and in Switzerland on November 15, 2018.

Background[edit]

The production of the film was lead by Mons Veneris Films GmbH, Zurich[3] / Das Kollektiv für audiovisuelle Werke GmbH, Zurich[4] and Indi Film GmbH, Stuttgart[5] in a co-production with SRG SSR, Arte, SRF, RTS and RSI.

The film was directed by swiss director Barbara Miller. She was assistant director and editing assistant of Christian Frei for the Academy Award nominated film War Photographer (2001).[6] Millers award-winning documentation Forbidden Voices (2012) was selected for several international film festivals, such as Visions du Réel[7] and IDFA[8]
