History[edit]

FlyORH started in 2005, the stated mission then and remains to be to make Worcester Airport an asset to the taxpayers of City of Worcester and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The FAA designation for Worcester Airport is ORH, thus FlyORH.

In order to this become a reality, FlyORH plans to monitor all developments at Worcester Airport and encourage airlines, general aviation and cargo to come to Worcester Airport. The first goal was to get Jetblue to fly daily to their hub at JFK Airport in New York City, from which you could then connect to anywhere on the JetBlue route map or connect with one of their partners.

Although FlyORH did not entice JetBlue to come to Worcester, Allegiant Airlines began flying to Sanford Airport, secondary airport to Orlando, in December 2005. Allegiant had loads consistently in the 85% and had over 10,000 passengers in the first 9 months, but they ended service in September of 2006?

After 2 more years without commercial service, Direct Air returned to Worcester in September of 2008 with flights to Sanford and Punta Gorda. Direct Air also experienced loads in the 85–90% range, added more destinations with Myrtle Beach/West Palm and had announced new destinations like Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. In February of 2012, Direct Air went bankrupt.

During the Direct Air years, Massport took over ownership of Worcester Airport on July 1, 2011 and began investing upwards of 100+ million dollars to date into the airport's infrastructure. This produced immediate results in November of 2013, JetBlue began daily direct service to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando on their 100 seat Embraer 190. The loads have been consistently in the 80–85% range and remain that high today.

The biggest single investment, over 30 million dollars, was into a CAT III landing system. which enables a plane to land when visibility is basically non-existent. Upon completion of Cat III, JetBlue began daily service to their hub in New York City (JFK) in May of 2018.

The announcement of the daily service to JetBlue's hub at JFK was a big day for Worcester Airport. This flight literally puts the world out our doorstep with the connections that can be made with JetBlue and their international partners at JFK. It is much more then a flight to NYC.

In May 2018, American Airlines also announced they would also start service out of Worcester with two flights per day to their hub in Philadelphia starting in October of of 2018. As of July, 2018, there is a rumor that Delta may in fact start service in January with flights to their hub in Detroit.

FlyORH plans to continue to work to bring more airlines, general aviation and cargo services to Worcester Airport.
