Françoise Nielly
Françoise Nielly is a French knife-painter who is known for painting vibrant and colorful closeup portraits. She was born in Marseille, brought up near Cannes and Saint-Tropez and is now living in Paris.
Early Life[edit]
Growing up in the South of France where she lived between Cannes and Saint-Tropez, is never far from the light, the color sense and the atmosphere that permeates the South of France. This is coupled with her studies with her studies at the Beaux arts and Decorative Arts, and her sense of humor and of celebration. She was educated informally by her father, an architect and teacher. Before becoming a painter, Nielly worked in advertising. She decided that the pressure of her advertising job was too much for her and a change of career was necessary for self-preservation.

Artwork[edit]
Françoise Nielly's painting is expressive, vibrant and detailed. She paints the human face in each of her paintings, which is inspired by urban life. And she paints it over and over again, with slashes of paint across their face. Color is launched like a projectile. Her energy gives each color tone the intensity of a sound vibration. She layers her painting with bright and contrasting color. Whether she paints the human body or portraits, she takes a risk: her painting is sexual, her colors free, exuberant, surprising, even explosive, the cut of her knife incisive, her color pallet dazzling. She uses a pallet knife with her vibrant oil paints in order to create stunning artwork.
