GHF (God Has Forgiven)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

GHF.[1] (which stands for God Has Forgiven), is a ministry focused Christian rock band comprised of three of the original members of the well-known band, Petra[2]

Greg Hough[3][4], Bill Glover[5], and John DeGroff[6] have decades of combined musical experience between them, and are listed in the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame.

The band started in 2001, and was originally called GHD[7], which was a name taken from the names of the band members. Bill Glover (drums and vocals); Greg Hough (guitar and vocals); and Dan Schrock (bass and vocals). All three members contributed to the song writing process.

Dan Schrock left the band after a year when he got married. His replacement was Jerry Farrington, also on bass and vocals. "Greg and I decided to change the name of the band at that time," said Bill. "We wanted to call it something where we wouldn't have to change the name if someone left. That's when we came up with God Has Forgiven. Jerry's last name just happened to line up with the letters...it was only a coincidence. I'm pretty sure that it was Greg who came up the name." During the summer of 2004, Jerry decided to leave the band as well. "We had a meeting with the old band, in which Jerry said what we wanted to do," said Bill. Glover and Hough decided to ask John DeGroff if he'd be interested in playing bass guitar, since he had moved back to the area recently.

John DeGroff moved back to his hometown of West Unity, Ohio in late 2003. DeGroff said. "I felt the Lord was directing me to make a change, but I wasn't sure why or exactly what He wanted. It was through re-establishing contact with Bill that I became involved in playing bass for a church worship team. Bill and I have also been involved in a couple of other projects, so when the opportunity to play with Greg presented itself, it just felt right. It's like being given a second chance...I get to do what I did 30 years ago. At the same time, it's also new, exciting, and a lot of fun. It's a blessing and an honor to be in a music ministry with these two guys again."

Greg Hough felt really good about the idea. Hough stated "I believe God calls us to do a work for Him. But a lot of times, people get side tracked from what He wants. Sometimes, it's His will, but other times it's for us to remember what He's called us to continue to do. I remember that when I left Petra, I asked the Lord if He was done with me. The Lord told me "No!". I feel that us getting back together, even if it's just once in a while, is really good for Bill, John, and I. It would even be good for the original band to play together again-but its great that GHF has it's own identity. I think that God still wants to use us, and he never told us that He wouldn't."

With the inclusion of DeGroff on bass, it was almost as if the members of GHF were coming full circle.

GHF has been called "...the new Petra" by some die-hard fans of the old band. But GHF is consistently carving out it's own niche in contemporary Christian music. The band does play some of the older tunes from their days in Petra, but is also constantly writing new material that is fresh and relevant to current musical tastes.

In 2004 GHF self produced a live CD, "Honestly Live[8]", This project was recorded at one of GHF's first public performances, and includes Petra songs from the first two albums plus original music written by Hough and Glover. It contains a mix of rock and blues. It's old school power trio, but the focus is, and will remain to be....God Has Forgiven.

In the summer of 2013, GHF released it's first studio album, "GHF, God Has Forgiven, Vol. 1[9]" This album contains all new material, with all members of the band contributing to the project.
