From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Introduction[edit]

The Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG [1]) is an independent global steering group working to catalyze Impact investment and Entrepreneurship. Founded in 2015 as the successor to and incorporating the work of the Social Impact Investment Taskforce established under the UK’s presidency of the G8. GSG has 27 countries as members with each country having their National Advisory Boards (NABs). GSG declares its aim as: measurable impact being embraced as a deliberate driver in every investment and business decision affecting people and the planet.

Mission[edit]

GSG derives its mission from the G8 Group of Eight taskforce which is regarded as its successor. The organisation aims to harness the energy behind Impact driven investments and spark a movement around the world.

GSG says: Impact is the measure of an action’s benefit to society and the planet. As we all want to make a difference, the Impact Movement is our collective aspiration to place Impact at the center of human consciousness by ensuring all business, investment and consumption decisions shift from a risk-return matrix to a risk-return-impact framework.[1]

History[edit]

The GSG was founded in August 2015 as an independent, multi-sectoral and global network catalyzing impact investment and entrepreneurship for social Impact. It succeeded the Social Impact Investment Taskforce established under the UK Presidency of the G8. In July 2016, a majority of stakeholders surveyed at the GSG Summit in Lisbon indicated support for the GSG to be formalized as an entity to continue to provide multi-lateral, cross-sector leadership for global market development supported by a dedicated team.

The GSG was incorporated as a charitable company in England and Wales in March 2017. It is managed by a Board of Trustees, who are also its directors for company law purposes. The GSG was established to further charitable purposes; in particular, to develop and promote impact investment with the aim of alleviating poverty, protecting the environment and developing sustainable economic growth, and also to educate in relation to impact investment.[2]
