GacLife is a California-based company that produces a fruit-infused functional beverage called Gấc. GacLife markets towards health-conscious consumers as providing "drinkable skin and vision care.”[1]

History[edit]

Founder and CEO Yin Zou was inspired to create GacLife after a trip to Vietnam, where she was offered gac fruit and claimed to notice improvements in her eye, skin, and general health.[2][3] The first batches of Gấc functional beverage were available for pre-order in June 2018 and set for delivery and official launch in August 2018.[4]

Originally only selling through online ordering, the company changed to online ordering and retail sales shortly after launch.

Product[edit]

Gac fruit is not well known outside of Southeast Asia, and this left an open market for a high-carotenoid functional water using gac juice.[5] To distinguish their beverage from the rest of the functional beverage market, GacLife limited the ingredient list of Gấc to fruit juices. They also committed to avoiding sweeteners, added sugars, and other flavorings.

The main ingredient of Gấc is juice derived from pureed gac fruit sourced from North Vietnam. Gac is known to have high levels of Carotenoids, including lycopene, beta-carotene, and lutein (high-carotenoid diets are associated with good overall health, including that of the skin and the eyes.)[6] Ingredients also include filtered water or sparkling water and fruit juice from whole fruits for flavoring. The total percentage of juice to water (or sparkling water) is 8-17%, and the nutritional values between the different flavors can vary slightly depending on the fruit juice in the blend.

The product contains no other ingredients or additives, juice concentrates, or added sugars (aside from those naturally present in the fruit juices) and is labeled as vegan and gluten-free.
