Gary P. Mooney

Gary P. Mooney, D.Com., LLD., (born July 8, 1946) is a Canadian entrepreneur, lawyer and former Jesuit Priest.

Mooney is executive chairman of the law firm, Anderson Sinclair LLP; the CEO of Canadian Lender Solutions, a company he founded in 2009; and the CEO of MyClosing, a residential real estate property delivery system.

Mooney pioneered title insurance and legal processing outsourcing for financial institutions in Canada. In the early 1990s, he founded LandCanada Title and Settlement Services Inc. In 2004, he sold the business[1] to Fidelity National Financial, a Fortune 500 company. He then became the President and CEO of FNF Canada[2] and Chief Agent of Chicago Title. He held that position for the next five years, after that becoming Chairman for a year, and then left the company.

Jesuit Order and Academia

Prior to his career as a lawyer and entrepreneur, Mooney was a Jesuit and academic.

After attending St. Bonaventure’s College in Newfoundland and St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Mooney entered the Jesuit Order in 1966. In 1973, he was ordained a Jesuit Priest and continued his academic studies until 1979, when he left the Society of Jesus to study law.

During a span of almost 16 years in university, Mooney received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph; Master of Arts from the University of Toronto; Master of Divinity from the University of Toronto; Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge; and a Law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Law Career

In 1981, Mooney was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada. The same year he purchased the century-old law firm Anderson Sinclair, one of the oldest law firms in Canada, founded in 1892.

Personal Life

Mooney was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He received his early education at a private school in Connecticut. He is married, has two adult children and lives in Mississauga and Port Carling, Ontario.
