From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Gay & Lesbian Awakening Days, (referred to as GLAD) is an event co-sponsored by the gay community of high schools, colleges and universities in the North District of Taiwan. Exist, respect gender, and participate in related issues together. The content of the activity is uncertain, including essays, symposiums, film festivals, sports meetings, press conferences, dance parties, evening parties, etc. The first session was held at National Taiwan University in 1995.

origin[edit]

Following the publication of Taiwan’s first report on the history and culture of homosexuality, the "Gay Confederation" in October 1994, which attracted the attention of the society, on June 1, the day before the Dragon Boat Festival, the National Taiwan University GayChat Research Club (GayChat) united with National Taiwan University. The Lesbian Research Society (Lambda), under the urging of Lambda instructor Zhang Xiaohong and friends who are enthusiastic about gay human rights, formed a "scented packet group" and meticulously planned a holiday that belonged to gay friends in Taiwan. The gay cultural event is called "Gay and Lesbian Awakening Day on Campus", and the English name is "GLAD"—Gay and Lesbian Awakening Day, which means campus gay awakening day. GLAD misappropriated the Duanwu Festival under heterosexual thinking to operate a homosexual festival. In addition to emphasizing the joy of homosexual culture, it also proposed some alternative interpretation methods to subvert the single-angle thinking under the heterosexual mechanism. The Dragon Boat Festival is to commemorate Qu Yuan in official history, and his writing mode may not be without homosexual love-hate entanglements. We did not equate Qu Yuan and gay men with certainty, but we can put a question mark on them and give them wider possibilities. In the part of wild history, the well-known biography of the White Snake is circulated among the folks. When it is interpreted from the perspective of comrades, many subtle interpretations are created: the emotional entanglement between the green snake and the white snake, Xu Xian and Fahai-Lin Huaimin's "The White Snake", the critical point theater troupe "White Water" also has a related interpretation. The Legend of White Snake also has a faint question of appearance-human beings and demons are in different realms, should you show up? Will it be forced to show up? What can I do after I show up? In the context of heterosexual hegemony, homosexuality is regarded as a "monster" and "heterogeneous". In this context, should we come out? Will it be forced to come out? What should I do after coming out? Comrades also face similar questions. Therefore, through GLAD’s series of activities, we hope to form a gathering of gay forces on campus. With the power of clubs, gay students can find companions with similar life experiences and understand that they are not a lonely alien, and then they can build more Perfect self-identity, eliminate inferiority and fear.
