George Kandathil

George Kandathil SJ (25 December 1920 – 7 November 2011) is known as the 'Father of Transactional Analysis in India'. He is the first ITAA member ( International Transactional Analysis Association ) from India, was introduced to Transactional Analysis in 1971 when he was attending courses in pastoral counseling at the Graduate Theological Union Berkeley, California.

On his return to India , he initiated the study of Transactional Analysis (TA) in India and gave a number of programs in metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkatha and Chennai. In 1973 he founded the Institute for Counselling and Transactional Analysis (ICTA) at Kochi, India.

He developed a theory called Triology, in order to heal the people by directing their positive energies into a meaningful life. He realized that the basic cause of the so-called Identity crisis of the youth of today to the weakened relationship with on'e own parents present or absent. This pushes them to multiple relationships, through smartphones, social medias, etc. According to him, only with a Identity resulting from meaninful and anchoring relationships, can one develop one's potential and attain to fullness in life.

Fr. George lived his passion and values, which paralleled the philosophy of TA , until his death on 7 November 2011 at age 91. He dedicated 38 years of his life to spread the message of Transactional Analysis across the country.
