Giovanni Morelli (designer)
Early Life and Education[edit]
Born in Cosenza, Italy, Giovanni Morelli began his fashion career at the Domus Academy in Milan[1], where he received his Master’s Degree in Fashion Design. Before being accepted into the program, he was enrolled as a student in law school.
Career[edit]
After graduating in 1989, Morelli joined the accessories design team at Prada[2]. He moved on to join the accessories design teams at Dolce & Gabbana and Céline before joining Burberry as Design Director[3], Accessories. Morelli then spent the next decade at Marc Jacobs and Chloé[4]. He led all non-apparel design teams at Chloé, including footwear.[5] He also created and built the brand’s accessories division, where he spearheaded the creation of handbags, including the Paddington, the Marcie, the Faye and the Drew . At Marc Jacobs[6], he established the brand’s signature quilting with the Stam handbag.
In 2015, he joined Loewe [7]as Global Leather Goods Design Director[8], Men's and Women's (Non-apparel) where he led the design team, established infrastructure with the factories and created bags like the Hammock[9]. He simultaneously collaborated with JW Anderson to create the brand’s leather goods business, including the Pierce bag.
In May[10] 2017[11], Morelli joined Stuart Weitzman[12] as Creative Director. [13]In November 2017[14], Giovanni debuted his first project for them, a three-shoe collection, designed in collaboration[15] with Gigi Hadid.
Morelli currently resides in New York City.
