Gladys Kalichini

Gladys Kalichini was born in Chingola, Zambia. She is a working artists whose studio space can be found at the Arts Academy Without Walls (AAWW) in the Showgrounds of Lusaka. Gladys graduated from the University of Zambia with a Bachelor of Arts in Economic and a minor in Demography.[1] Gladys Kalichini is self taught and her art and academic research has a focus on colonial history, memory and marginalisation[2] Due to her background in economics Gladys is fascinated by social imbalance in the third world and therefore incorporates graphs with clan, repetitive lines in her work.[3] She primarily works with acrylic paints on canvas and uses bold lines and textures. Outside of producing her won work Gladys has been involved in non-profit initiatives including the an artist collaboration called art4art creating a large scale collage for the Centre for Disease Control (cdc) office in Lusaka as well as the Elizabeth Glaser Padiatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF).[4]
