Gladys Kalichini

Gladys Kalichini was born in Chingola, Zambia. She is a working artists whose studio space can be found at the Arts Academy Without Walls (AAWW) in the Showgrounds of Lusaka. Gladys graduated from the University of Zambia with a Bachelor of Arts in Economic and a minor in Demography. Gladys Kalichini is self taught and her art and academic research has a focus on colonial history, memory and marginalisation Due to her background in economics Gladys is fascinated by social imbalance in the third world and therefore incorporates graphs with clan, repetitive lines in her work. She primarily works with acrylic paints on canvas and uses bold lines and textures. Outside of producing her won work Gladys has been involved in non-profit initiatives including the an artist collaboration called art4art creating a large scale collage for the Centre for Disease Control (cdc) office in Lusaka as well as the Elizabeth Glaser Padiatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF).
