Cecilia Villero, better known as Goddess Cecilia, (she/her/siya) is a Filipinx Sexuality and Pleasure Educator/Consultant from Los Angeles, California. She received her Masters in Social Work in 2006 in Boston, Massachusetts. Shortly after, she began working with Athena’s to supplement her income as she redirected her career aspirations towards sexuality education. [1] She is a survivor of childhood sexual assault, something that deeply underlines her work in preventing sexual asault and the importance of sexual education in reducing the instances of sexual assault.[2] In hosting parties for adult novelties through her job at Athena’s, she gained experience in the foundation-building of becoming a small business owner. Working with both youth and adults allowed Villero to see the similarities in the gap of knowledge surrounding personal pleasure and sexual education. Offering private consultations and tactile learning sessions aids her in teaching her customers about what their bodies are capable of, and how to best serve themselves.[3] Villero is well-known for using her sex ed prop, Voula the Vulva, to teach about physical anatomy for vagina-having people. Villero specializes in building communities of support for Women, Femmes, and Survivors of Color in sexual pleasure, activism, and education.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Cecilia Villero was born on April 23, 1982, in Los Angeles, California, and went to Alexandria Elementary School. She is a 1.5 generation Filipina. She is a survivor of childhood sexual assault. As an undergraduate she attended the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2003 with a B.A. in psychology. She earned an MSW (Macro Social Work) from Boston University in 2006.[4]

Activism[edit]

Athena's[edit]

One of Villero’s businesses is called “Athena’s,” also known as “Athena’s Home Novelties party.” Athena’s is a site where people can book parties to learn about self-care, pleasure, and intimacy, while also having fun. She hosts both Adult Novelty Parties (for ages 18+) and Heavenly Goddess Spa Parties (for all ages). [5] On her website, people have access to buy products for self-care, such as sex toys, skin care products, romance products, bath products, massage products, pleasure restraints, foot care products, and more. The main objective of Athena’s is to bring people together and show them how to make their love lives better than ever, hopefully changing their lives, bringing them pleasure, and creating happy and healthy communities.

Work Today[edit]

Villero offers a variety of events, activities, and consultations to people who want to learn more about their own sexuality and pleasure. These events vary between private and group, allowing customers to find exactly what fits their needs before booking. Consultations allow customers to discuss their intimate needs and wants, and Villero provides recommendations, product reviews, and discreet ordering. [6] Workshops with Goddess Cecilia can be found in schools and homes, with focuses on pleasure through anatomy, tools, oral knowledge, and crafts. Through all of her works with clients, she practices trauma-informed communication and social justice focus in order to make safe spaces for pleasure in all bodies.

Voula The Vulva is a larger-than-life fabric model of the anatomy of a vagina. The fabric is varying shades of red, magenta, and pink, and is an aid for Villero in many anatomy-based workshops. The main focus is naming correct body parts as well as exposing the breadth of pleasurable spots the vagina has, especially in relation to the clitoris. [7] is also a ‘spokesperson’ for Goddess Cecilia, and acts as a representation for equal representation of genitalia in public spaces. Voula’s presence at workshops inspired Villero to create Vulva/Body Crafts for customers in which the creation of art can be equated with anatomy and diversity. The vulva created by individuals celebrates differences, health, anatomy, and pleasure. Villero offers workshops for business and companies looking to “become more pleasure-centered, trauma-informed, and inclusive of various marginalized communities.” [8] Many companies are striving to help their clients, and Villero aids in the outreach and marketing of adult companies without marginalizing any bodies.

Blog[edit]

Villero currently runs a blog on her website, where she writes about subjects such as how to practice pleasure, communicate about pleasure, Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) sexuality, the AAPI community in general, self-care, dealing with abuse, and much more. [9] She’s been running this blog since 2016, and her posts range from giving advice to viewers, to writing about her own personal experiences, to giving her thoughts on current events and issues. Along with her posts, she also includes some helpful infographics to consolidate information for her readers. One of her series on her blog is called Walang Hiya - Without Shame, where she talks about the shame she has felt in the context of being Filipino American and an immigrant. The phrase “walang hiya” is a Filipino phrase that means “without shame” or “shameless,” and was originally used by Spanish colonizers to degrade Filipinos working in the fields. Villero has often heard this phrase growing up, being used in order to shame folks into changing their behavior. However, with her series, she is spinning the phrase into something more positive. In this four part series, she discusses and questions how can be without shame, releasing and being free of body shame, professional shame, pleasure shame, and trauma shame.

Youtube[edit]

She runs an active YouTube channel under the name ‘Goddess Cecilia’ with nearly 2,000 subscribers. [10] Since 2018, she has posted product reviews for her Heavenly Goddess and Athena brands. In addition to the reviews, she also does Mermaid Goddess Q&A’s to answer questions about sex and pleasure and has done a series on Filipinx-American experiences with sexual education.

Podcasts[edit]

Villero began her podcast in August 2021 with a focus on featuring her friends as guests, reconnecting after being in the COVID-19 pandemic for over a year. [11] Her podcast is titled “Raw Bar with Goddess Cecilia” and covers a variety of sexuality and pleasure topics especially in the time of global shutdown. Episodes range in topic from parenthood, romantic partnership, pleasure, sexual education, and erotic art. Raw Bar is currently in its first season.
