Around 2:30-2:35 AM on December 23, 1982, members of the Chinese gang Flying Dragons wearing ski masks, stockings or bags entered the Golden Star Restaurant in New York City at 2:35 AM armed with a 9mm automatic, a .45 caliber and a .32 caliber pistol and started firing 'indiscriminately' at the 25 customers of the restaurant[1]. Their goal was to intimidate and assimilate the two rival gangs present at the location which were the White Tigers (gang) and the Chinese Freemasons. The victims had no time to flee or to react to the surprise attack and they were not armed.

When police had arrived to the site of the crime site, they proclaimed that the restaurant was ''littered with bullets and bodies'' [2]. In total, 8 were wounded and 3 were killed in the incident. The 3 men that had been killed were Michael Tsung ( 20 years old) , Irving Woo (17 years old) and Steven Chan (13 years old).

As of 1985, the Golden Star Restaurant in which the shooting took place is ''no longer in business'' [3]. This incident is not to be confused with the Golden Dragon massacre that happened in San Francisco.
