From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hamed Ibrahim El-Mously (born 8 April 1943 in Egypt) is an Egyptian researcher in the fields of renewable materials research and applications, and the machine tool design. El-Mously has several contributions in both scientific and community development fields. He used to apply his researches in endogenous development of the poor villages in Egypt.

Early life and education[edit]

El-Mously grew up in Cairo, he studied in Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University. He obtained the Ph.D. from Metal Cutting Machine Tools Institute, Moscow.

He got involved in the studies of local communities in Egypt, and he was shocked by the paradoxical situation found in many villages in Egypt: Poverty of farmers and richness of available renewable resource especially the agricultural residues, this motivated him to change his career from interest in machine tool to interest in the renewable materials researches. He coined the concept rediscovery of renewable materials meaning to view them within the framework of modernity, i.e. to launch imagination and thinking abilities to discover new avenues of utilization: locally, nationally and internationally. Thus, he found the sustainable path to help the poor in villages: helping them to make use of their traditional heritage about their own locally available renewable resources and yet innovate new forms (products) of utilization. Thus, he has done via helping local populace launch their own projects in their local communities which may provide sustainable labor opportunities of them. Along this path he is helping them to valorize their own locally available resources and gain self-respect and trust themselves. To do this he had to learn a new to know about people have at their hands or even under their legs because most of their agricultural residues, he worked on, are neglected and treated as waste.

Awards[edit]

  • Ain Shams University Appreciation Award in the engineering science field, Egypt, 2014.
  • Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, pioneering development and productive project, United Arab Emirates, 2013.
  • Best research Award in the international congress in the field of materials in Europe “Euromat-97”, Netherlands, 1997.
  • Egyptian Engineers Syndicate Award, engineering day, 1994.

Academic and research career[edit]

El-Mously became a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University since 1983.

Books[edit]

El-Mously wrote two international books:

  • Added value from industries: Introduced in villages, oases and reclaimed lands, LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing, 9 January 2017.
  • The Renewable Material Resources: A material base for the endogenous sustainable development of the local communities, LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing, 12 May 2017.

Patents[edit]

El-Mously has two patents in the machine tool design field:

  • A carriage for a multi-tool centre lathe, the description of the invention for the patent No. 286447, ; Bulletin of Inventions and Trade Marks, No. 34: 1970.
  • A multi-spindle automatic lathe of the parallel type, the description of the invention for the patent No. 284558, : Bulletion of Inventions and Trade Marks; No. 32: 1970.

Publications[edit]

El-Mously has over 70 publications in renewable material research and machine tool design fields.

Practical life[edit]

El-Mously has several fingerprints in a lot of villages in Egypt, by applying developing projects using their local resources since 1995. The projects include production of blockboard, parquet, and arabesque from palm midribs, production of non-traditional animal feed from agricultural residues, production of organic fertilizers from pruning-products of date palms, doum palms, and mango trees, and production of fig jam.

El-Mously contributed in the foundation of several research and societies:

  • Small Industries and Local Technology Development Center.
  • The Egyptian Society for Endogenous Development of Local Communities.
  • Network of Fiber-Plastic Composites, Tree-Free Wood Innovation.
  • Network, Foundation for Renewable materials Research, Technology and Applications.

He is a member in several strategic consulting and scientific committees.g, Ain Shams University. He obtained the Ph.D from Metal Cutting Machine Tools Institute, Moscow.
