Handmade Canberra is an indoor market in Canberra, Australia with 260 stalls and sells Australian handmade goods, food and beverages. It is popular with locals and tourist and has free entry. It has been in several locations, but moved to its present site in Exhibition Park in Canberra in 2014.

Hours: Saturday and Sunday every quarter, 10-4pm. The Christmas market in December has a Friday night market 5-9pm.

Trade[edit]

Stallholders come to trade at the market from different parts of Australia. Homewares, fashion, art and food are some of the most popular items on offer.

History[edit]

Handmade Canberra Market was established in 2008 by founder Julie Nichols.

The market originally started with 35 stalls and outgrew Albert Hall, The Yarralumla Woolshed and the Kamberra Wine Company, before finding a home at the National Convention Centre, where crowds regularly numbered 15,000.

Now held at Exhibition Park in Canberra, there are 20,000+ attendees over the weekend at the Handmade Market. For a while, the Handmade Shop in Canberra’s CBD provided Handmade Canberra with a permanent shopfront, but it closed with the regeneration of the area, and Julie’s focus has returned to the markets.

As reported by the Canberra Times[1], Chief Minister Andrew Barr recently bestowed the honour on the markets of naming it a "Canberra institution".
