This article is about the fashion label Hardeman. For the Dutch-born fashion designer and artist, see Sophie Hardeman (fashion designer).

The Hardeman fashion brand was created by Dutch fashion designer Sophie Hardeman (born 30 November 1990, in Arnhem). The Hardeman brand still exists today.

The label[edit | edit source]

Sophie Hardeman, a fashion and fine arts graduate of Amsterdam’s prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academie, set up a denim studio in Amsterdam in 2015 and opened a boutique there in 2018, at the age of 27. Her clothes were fairly successful in her native Amsterdam, where her first collections were presented at Van Ravenstein. After presenting her work as part of the V Files Runway in February 2016, at Spring Studios in New York City, initiated by V Magazine, she branched out successfully to Paris in 2016 and created the the label "Hardeman".

Hardeman is known for her minimalist, deconstructivist, and often severe designs. Her fashion house became famous in the early 2000's for its simple but refined designs, its gender defying denim collections, and the use of symbolism re-occurring within daily life.

New York City[edit | edit source]

In New York, she decided in September 2016, to show her second collection through a live performance to the world, presenting at White Box Gallery, in New York. Even before her debut in 2016 in the fashion industry, the brand was recognized by the New York Times one of the 'Five Designers to Watch' during New York Fashion Week.[1] The following season she announced to show her collection not only during New York Fashion Week, but also in Los Angeles and Paris. As a result, the Dutch designer was nominated and listed on Forbes 30 Under 30 EU, in 2018.[2]

Hardeman fashion[edit | edit source]

Throughout the years, both womenswear and menswear were kept under a single name and always presented in one and the same fashion show. Underwear (2018) lines as well as accessories, such as footwear (1990) and fragrances (1999) were launched, but otherwise the brand was kept unified to solidify its identity and strength.

With the Hardeman label a perfume has been associated, produced in cooperation with olfactory artist Klara Ravat.
