Harmony Hill Baptist Church is a baptist church located at 2708 S. Chestnut St. in Lufkin, Texas.

Background[edit]

The senior pastor is Dr. John W. Greene he has been Harmony Hills pastor for over 40 years. The church is active in the Lufkin community by having a food pantry every third Wednesday of the month. The church does international mission work in Niger, West Africa(Fulani people), Bolivia, and Southeast Asia.[1] The church has 1500 members and growing.[2]

History[edit]

Harmony Hill Baptist Church opened in 1913, the first pastor on record is L.M. Westmoreland. In 2001 a new worship center was completed. In 2012 the church spent 1 million dollars to build an outreach center to minister to the sick, hungry, and homeless.[3] The church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.[4][5] Pastor Greene has delivered the invocation at the Texas House of Representatives twice - once in 1999 and once in 2015 with state representative Trent Ashby.[6][7]

Harmony Christian School[edit]

Harmony Christian School was a Christian private school opened in 1995, by Harmony Hill Baptist Church. Enrollment in the school began to decline in 2005. The school began renovation in May 2009 and was completed in September 2009.[8] Church elders and Pastor Greene decided to close the school in 2014 due to financial shortfall, the school was open for 19 years.[9][10]
