Heimland is a Norwegian black metal-band from Karmøy, Norway. The band was formed in 2016 by drummer Thamuz and vocalist Gnist. Later joined by Odd Ivar Vedø as guitarist and Håvard Østrem on bass. In mid 2017 the group started playing concerts at small youth clubs and primarily at the "Gamle Slakthuset" in Haugesund, Norway.
2016 - 2018
Heimland made a good first impression of themselves as a black metal-band in the local music scene due to their traditional yet atmospheric playstyle. In late 2017 vocalist Gnist had to leave the band due to personal reasons, later being replaced by Håvard Østrem on vocals. After taking a turn, the trio went on to play at the 2018's Haugalands Mesterskapet (Haugalands Championship) for local musicians, where they achieved a 1st place giving them a opportunity to record their first two singles; "Heimland" and "Skog".
2019 - mid 2020
13th of April, the trio performed at Karmøygeddon Kick-Off 2019 where they announced their future releases. The trio got booked to perform at Musikkfest Haugesund 2019 at 1st of June. The general growth of the band started after the release of "Skog" on the 22nd August 2019, followed by their second single "Heimland" on the 26th September the same year. Months later the trio went back into studio to complete their first album, due to complications they deicided not to release the songs. After sharing ideas with the organizer of Karmøygeddon Metal Festival, a new mini-festival was founded by the name "Black Night" where the trio where to perform along with other bands such as Taake and Mork. After making a good impression, they quickly got booked to play at Undergrunn Metropolis and Folken in Stavanger Norway. In February 2020, the trio got press coverage by the Norwegian metal magazine Scream Magazine no. 243, before their last concert as a trio at Hulen, Bergen the 13th of February 2020. When the COVID-19 outbreak stormed the world, the amount of available concerts were cancelled, this had a major affect on the trio overall.
During the COVID-19 crisis; the trio undoubtedly struggled to meeting and with a lack of musical interest, led to guitarist Odd Ivar Vedø's departure from the trio at the 10th of June 2020. Drummer Thamuz deicided to look for a replacement for the guitarist role, which led to Gnist becoming a member of the band once again. Due to this, vocalist/ bassplayer Håvard Østrem left the band on short notice after disagreeing on Gnist's return. All this let the opportunity of a new line up including long-serving member Thamuz, and which unofficially introduced Vordr as the new bassplayer, Alfhar as new guitarist which Gnist returned to his original vocalist role.
