From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Hotel Janne is a hotel, located in Riga, district of Agenskalns, accross the street from Pauls Stradins University Hospital and near the historic Agenskalns’ Market

History[edit]

Building complex of Hotel Janne was designed and built by famous architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns in 1903. after request of a retailer and land owner Jānis or Janne Bildats.[1]

It consists of six buildings, of whom one is occupied by Hotel Janne – located on the ground floor on Pilsoņu street 18. Historicly the building was a bakery, a butchers shop, a grocery store, as well as a dentistry and a volunteer fire brigade station.[2]

Story[edit]

Buildings were restored in 2014., preserving the wood architecture characteristic of Agenskalns, and, with the renovation of the buildings, Hotel Janne and Riga Academic Guest House were founded.[3] Hotel stands out among the others, as it is the only hotel in Riga, where bees are kept all year long – bee hives have been located in the attic of the building for the second year.  Similar project was made by Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel, where bees were held on the roof for one month – from June 17th until the July 18th.[4]
