First got together in 2003 in Milton Keynes, but moved to London shortly afterwards where they were signed to ‘Brian Morisson Publishing’ (Pink Floyd, The Jam, Wham! etc) and his new label ‘Believe Music’ along with Snapper Records. The original line-up comprised of Michael Koltes (vocals) Sam Sutherland (Guitar) Gary Kilminster (Bass) and Johnny South (Drums) Sutherland would leave in 2004 and was replaced by Gary Mills.

They released the first single, ‘Public Enemy No. 1’ in 2004 and they quickly had their first taste of chart success when the video reached number 12 on ‘ The Box’ and was playlisted on ‘MTV’ and ‘Scuzz’. In the first week the single reached number 53 in the charts, and it was also playlisted on ‘Clyde Radio’ and ‘Capital Radio’.

Following this release, the band continued with promotional activity, playing many roadshows including a radio tour and a performance at ‘Live and Loud’ in Hampden Park, Glasgow to a crowd of 20,000. The band also played to 30,000 people over two days at a charity event at the SECC in Glasgow. Hypo Psycho appeared on a variety of television shows, including ‘ The Saturday Morning Show’ and the video was also played on ‘Top of the Pops’.

The second single, ‘Stalker Girl’ was released in 2005 amidst more promotional activity including another radio tour. e track was selected as ‘Single of the Week’ by ‘Kerrang Radio’, and reached number 9 in the ‘Radio 1 Rock Chart’.

The debut album, ‘Somebody Someday’, was recorded in Glasgow and released in 2006 in the UK and Holland, and this was followed by many months of intensive touring.

Sadly around the time of the release of the debut album, Somebody Someday, produced by Anders Kallmark and John McLaughlin, Bryan the bands manager suffered a tragic accident which left him in a coma until his death in 2008. Believe was dissolved and the band parted company with Snapper records.

2007 saw a line-up change with Kilminster joining former Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley’s band, Jonny South moved into Artist Management. New members Kris Green formerly of Robolint and Richard Brightwell joined as Drummer and Brass/Keyboard player respectively. Later that year former Token of my affection Bass player James Mulligan would join the ranks and band would undertake further tours throughout the year.

2008 Hypo Psycho recorded a brand new EP entitled ‘Body of an Angel, Mind of a Devil’, and continued to tour and promote themselves heavily, Kris Green the bands then drummer would leave and be replaced by Leon Packer.

2009 saw the band take a step away from their Ska-punk feel and incorporate a new sound taking influences from Queen, Panic at the disco and 80’s synth pop. A new single ‘Queen of Hearts’ was set to be released along with a video and a support tour with ‘A’ but then band halted and seemingly parted ways.

Michael Koltes went to further pursue his acting career, Gary Mills joined Andy Gallaghers band, Richard Brightwell became a teacher in Hong Kong, James Mulligan founded LunchBand and Leon Packer joined Spoilers.

Hypo Pyscho reformed for a jam session in 2016 with original members Michael Koltes, Gary Mills, Gary Kilminster and Jonny South. Richard Brightwell also joined in.
