The ICM (International Congress of Mathematicians) 2018 was the twenty-eighth International Congress of Mathematicians held in Rio de Janeiro from August 1 to August 9 of 2018.

Following its approval at the General Assembly of the International Mathematical Union at ICM 2014 in Hyderabad, India, Rio became the host of ICM

3,018 mathematicians came from 114 countries to attend the global math meeting, which totaled 10,506 attendees and 416,000 website visits. 2.36 million people connected on social networks during the 9 days of the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians.

The mathematicians Caucher Birkar, Alessio Figalli, Peter Scholze and Akshay Venkatesh were the winners of the Fields Medal in the year 2018.
