The initial objectives of IRIS Project is to design, develop, launch, and operate two CubeSat in low earth orbit. The two cubesats are called IRIS-A and IRIS-B, that has different mission purposes and payloads developed by cooperated partner. The team is planning to use the same bus on different IRIS cubesats to speedup the development schedule. In the future, the IRIS team would add more cubesat programs into IRIS project as project expansion.
Background[edit]
The National Cheng Kung University joined the Von Karman Institute held QB50 program and launched their first cubesat Phoenix(TW-01). Since the cubesat was the first Taiwanese cubesat, NCKU has become the most experienced university on cubesat system in Taiwan. As an effort to support the Taiwanese space industry, NCKU announced the IRIS Project and soon be approved by MoST, Taiwan in Mid-2018. The IRIS Project team consists of several colleges, companies and institutes, including NCKU, NCNU, AFATS, Liscotech, LETSCOM, and NSPO.[1]
Spacecraft[edit]
The projects is aiming to launch two cubesats. The first cubesat IRIS-A had been deployed on 13 January 2022 by Falcon 9 rocket.[2]
