Ikea cow salt and pepper shakers

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Predating the sad lamp Ikea commercial by over ten years, there was a similar commercial involving two salt and pepper shakers shaped like cows.

Although there is very little known about this commercial, and no known footage of the Ikea salt and Pepper shakers on youtube or Vimeo' on this ad, the script is very similar to the lamp commercial, but much sadder, so sad it was taken off the air within a few months. Since the time period of this commercial was in the 90s and predated youtube, it was probably thrown in a vault somewhere, and not shown to the public because of its 'tear jerking' response. Even many in the ad company that created the commercial shed a tear or two.

The premise of the commercial begins with two lovers in a kitchen who want to make love. The female is sitting at the kitchen table in what looks like to be a small flat possibly over a store.

Her lover kisses her, at first she is happy, but then she becomes hesitant when she realizes two cow salt and pepper shakers are on the table looking at her.

The two lovers embrace and begin to kiss again, but the female protagonists stops once again.

She is embarrassed to make love in front of the two cows looking up at her from the table.

In the next scene, (similar to the lamp commercial) the salt shakers are put out on the street in what appears to be a damp rainy evening.

Although the ad was meant to be humorous and light hearted, the majority of people found it to be very upsetting, and would sometimes cry when the commercial came on.

Many critics said the ad must be removed, it was in juxtaposition or had the likeliness of a mother or father dumping their own children on the street because they are a burden.
