The Institute of contemporary art (ICA) is one of the leading institutions in the field of contemporary art in Moscow.

History[edit]

The institute was created by a group of artists, art critics and art theorists in 1992 to organize exhibitions, research, and education projects in the field of fine arts. 650 artists have graduated from the institute since its foundation, about 50 students are enrolled annually[1]. [2]

The founder and director of the Institute is Joseph Backstein, commissioner of the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

The main purpose of all initiatives of the institute has been to reintegrate Russian art into the international art world's structures.

Program "New Art Strategies"[edit]

This program's primary aim is to develop a systematic understanding of the field of contemporary art and the professional skills necessary to create art projects.

"New Art Strategies" is structured over two years and includes lecture and seminar-based courses in history and theory of contemporary art, workshops, group research projects, discussions, and consultations with teachers.
