International Film Festival Cinema Jove of Valencia

The international film festival Cinema Jove is a cinema festival dedicated to young filmmakers. Each year in June, different realizations from the entire world are projecting in different places of Valencia as the Teatro Princpal, Cine-Teatro Rialto, Jardines del Real.[1] and also the Institut Français of Valencia for the francophones films [2]. The first edition occurred in 1986.

By its characteristics to limit to 40 years old the age of competitors, the International Film Festival of Valencia appears as new generation's center. The Official Selection award filmmakers in three categories : features, short-movies and web-series.

Moreover, the Festival honors emblematic directors who had been talented while they were young throughout exhibitions, conferences and professional meeting, Cinema Jove gives to the audience a real emerging talent's panorama.

The 33rd International film festival Cinema Jove will happened from the 22th to the 29th of June 2018.

Cinema Jove is organized by Valencia's municipality throughout Valencia Audiovisual and Cinematographic Institute and is recognized by the International Federaton of Movie Makers (FIAPF).

In 1986, the Generalitat Valenciana created Cinema Jove Festival. From its beginning, it is dedicated to the cinematographic education, but quickly became a young filmmaker international place of meetings [3].

Born with the vocation to sustain young directors' first audiovisual initiatives, Cinema Jove Festival quickly get a national and international scale, also an Official Short film Selection had been established. Furthermore, it took a larger duration of one week, allowing an Official Feature film Selection to be created in 1991. Since 2015, there is also an Official Web-series Selection.

Besides the Official Selection, emblematic movies are projected in order to continue with the idea of cinematographic education.

Since 2016, Carlos Madrid leads the Festival. He created also La Cabina Festival, dedicated to medium-length documentary, playing in Valencia in November[4]

Aims[edit]

This project is leading by the dynamism to show the innovations leaded by young filmmakers with whom it is genereally usual to meet new form of cinema (la Nouvelle Vague for example). In this way, International Film Festival Cinema Jove is singular in the cinematographic industry in due to this allowed part to the risk.

Hence, mediatic gratitude is not that important, on the contrary of the national and international professional recognition. Cinematographic art in taught thanks to this festival, that is to say narratives technics.

Awards[edit]

Within Official Selection, there are different awards which could change, but 3 categories : best features, best short-movies and best web-serie. Winners received the "Moon of Valencia" and a financial gratefulness.

Selection Comity members are designated by the Festvial's president among experts of cinema, as for Jury members. Decisions of both Jury and Comity could not be submitted to an appeal.

Various Spanish directors had been recognized thanks to Cinema Jove, beginning professional filmmakers. It had been the case for Álex de la Iglesia, Icíar Bollaín, Alejandro Amenábar, Sigfrid Monleón, Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Marc Recha, Matteo Garrone, Thomas Vinterberg, Daniel Calparsoro or Miguel Albaladejo, which the 25th edition had honored.
