International Marian Research Institute

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The International Marian Research Institute (IMRI) at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, is a research institute devoted to the study of Marian doctrine and devotion.[1] IMRI promotes scholarship in Marian studies by teaching courses, producing online Marian Forums,[2] publishing the scholarly journal Marian Library Studies,[3] and hosting Marian Studies and Spirituality, a weekly radio program on Radio Maria.[4]

The Society of Mary (Marianists) founded IMRI in 1975 in order to attract scholars who were capable of mining the information in the Marian Library, a special collection within the University Libraries.[5] Established in 1943, the Marian Library is a specialty collection devoted to the study of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.[6]

Using the specialized resources at the Marian Library and multidisciplinary resources of the University of Dayton, IMRI’s scholars apply academic rigor to the study of the role that Mary plays in the Christian tradition in both doctrine and spirituality. In this way, IMRI expresses the Catholic and Marianist character of the University of Dayton in an overt way and contributes to the university’s mission of connecting scholarship and learning with leadership and service to the world.[7]
