The International Union of Property Owners (UIPI) is a pan-European non-profit association (ASBL under Belgian law) [1] that comprises 29 organisations of private property owners from 28 countries in Europe[2]. The objective of the association is to protect and promote the interests of private property owners (landlords, homeowners and condominium owners).
History[edit]
The International Union of Property Owners was created in Paris in 1923 to defend private property after the First World War. The association, then called “Union Internationale de la Propriété Foncière Batie”, interrupted its activities with the beginning of the Second World War, but was re-introduced in 1948 and eventually renamed to “Union Internationale de la Propriété Immobilière”[3].
The official seat of UIPI was transferred to Brussels, Belgium in 2006[4]. In 2009, UIPI opened its European Affairs Office.
Activities[edit]
UIPI represents its members towards the European Union and monitors policy that could have an impact on property rights, real estate and the building sector.
UIPI is member of the European Housing Forum[5] and official partner of the European parliament URBAN Intergroup[6].
Member Organisations[edit]
In January 2018, UIPI had 29 Member Organisations from 28 countries in Europe.[7]
