The Ipswich Scientific-Gossip Society was founded by John Ellor Taylor (1837-1895) in Ipswich, Suffolk in the year 1869.

Ipswich Scientific-Gossip Society[edit]

John Ellor Taylor was the editor of Hardwicke's Science Gossip Magazine between 1872 and 1893.

Citizen Science Project[edit]

Scans of Hardwicke's Science Gossip Magazine are available through a Zooniverse Citizen Science project. Users are asked to choose between text only pages and pages with images. Images can be tagged.

Ipswich Scientific Society[edit]

In 1875 the society changed its name to the Ipswich Scientific Society.

Ipswich and District Natural History Society[edit]

In the depression that followed the First World War the society started to struggle and so amalgamated with the Ipswich and District Field Club to form the Ipswich and District Natural History Society in order to continue its activities. The Ipswich and District Natural History Society continued until 2013.
