Jan Kozel (born 15 June 1996) is the Czech footballer who plays as a centre back or left back for CFL club Viktorie Jirny.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Born in Prague, Kozel began his football career with HET liga club SK Slavia Prague, joining their academy and played there till 2011. During this era he played in various age group competitions in the Czech Republic and against top football academies from Germany, France, Italy, Spain or the UK. He was a member of the winning academy teams in the respective age group categories several times. In 2012, Kozel left SK Slavia Prague to join HET liga club FK Dukla Prague.

Club career[edit | edit source]

FK Dukla Prague[edit | edit source]

Kozel is a product of the FK Dukla Prague[1] youth team. He was more and more "specialised“ in the centre back and left wing-back positions. He played the highest leagues in all age categories in the Czech Republic. He was a member of the Professional Development team till 2015 which played in the U-23s Premier League. There, he had an opportunity to participate on training sessions with the first team which is the member of the Czech Premier League called HET liga.

SK Aritma Prague (loan)[edit | edit source]

After 9 appearances for FK Dukla Prague under-23s to start the 2016 spring period after the winter break, Kozel wanted to accept an offer from senior football teams. Been chosen by the club called SK Aritma Prague because of a long term close cooperation with FK Dukla Praha. There, he had the opportunity to try the semi-professional football.

SK Aritma Prague[edit | edit source]

While playing for the FK Dukla Prague and SK Aritma Prague[2] he decided to start a bachelor's degree at the Charles University (Physical Education and Sport) in the combination with his football career. Started the 2016-2017 season with SK Aritma Prague because of the distance between the University and the area of the club. During the seasons he was awarded several times in the best squad of league rounds. After the automn season he received an offer from a professional football club playing in the Fotbalova Narodni Liga (second division) where he spent the winter preseason. The deal did not happen because the club didn't agreed the conditions with his current club during that time.

A.F.C Fylde[edit | edit source]

During the summer preseason before the 2017-2018 season he took the opportunity to spend a year at the University of Central Lancashire where he wanted to combine his football career with his study. After his arrival in England in September 2017 he had the possibility to impress scouts who have had a relationship with the University. Spent time in National League member AFC Fylde[3] [4]from September till April. Couldn't play in competitive league matches because of the long term processes of registration, National Insurance Number and also because of an injury. However, he played a lot of friendly matches against professional and semi-professional teams (Legue one, League Two, National League, National League North).

Lancaster City F.C.[edit | edit source]

After the long process he was finally registred in April by Lancaster City FC which competes in the Northern Premier league.[5]

SK Viktorie Jirny[edit | edit source]

During the summer period took part of the HFU camp for Czech players without professional contract. Refused offers from clubs from abroad due to a decision to complete bachelor's degree at the University of Charles (Physical Education and Sport) in May 2019. Accepted an offer from the CFL club SK Viktorie Jirny[6] in September 2018.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Jan's Czech nickname is "Johny" and in England "Ianny" or "big man" because of the wrong pronunciation of his name. Jan is completing a degree in Sport Coaching at the Charles University[7].
