Jason Ferris is an American football linebacker for the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at UMW.

College Career[edit]

2015[edit]

After graduating high school, he attended UMW with his cousin J.D. Ferris. But unlike his cousin he redshirted this season.[1]

2016[edit]

The following season he played in 11 games where he had a total of 85 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 3 pass breakups and two interceptions with one taken back for a touchdown. At the end of the year he earned academic all-conference.[1]

2017[edit]

During his Sophomore season he played in 11 games where he had a total of 92 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 8 pass breakups, and two interceptions. He was so productive this season he was 32nd in the nation in tackles per game (8.4). At the end of the year he earned Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, CoSIDA Academic All-District, and Academic All-Conference.[1]

2018[edit]

In his Junior season he played even better and became the team captain. He played in 10 games where he had a total of 125 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 12 pass break-ups, and 3 interceptions. His productivity was an improvement from last year as he was 16th in the nation in passes defended per game (1.5) and 3rd in the nation in tackles per game (12.5). At the end of the year he earned Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week (September 18 and October 16), Finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, CoSIDA Academic All-District, and Academic All-Conference. He also earned NAIA, AFCA and AP First Team All-American.[1]

2019[edit]

In his final season his productively stayed consistent and he was still the team captain. He played in 10 games where he had a total of 119 tackles, 10 tackles of loss, 3.5 sacks, 7 pass break ups, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery for a touchdown, and 1 blocked kick. He was also 3rd in the nation in tackles per game (11.9) again, and 8th in the nation for forced fumbles (3).[1]

Profesional Career[edit]

Carolina Panthers[edit]

After going undrafted in 2020 he was signed by the Carolina Panthers on April 30, 2019.[2] He was waived on August 1, 2020.[3] A day later he was put on Injury Reserve.[4] He was waived from Injury Reserve on August 16, 2020.[5]

Birmingham Stallions[edit]

Ferris was selected in the 21th round of the 2022 USFL Draft by the Birmingham Stallions.[6]

Personal Life[edit]

Ferris played with his cousin, J.D., at Beaverhead County (Beaverhead County, Montana) and UMW. While at college, he double majored in business and natural horsemanship.[1]
