Jay Deutsch (Jacob Deutsch), (September 15, 1967) is an American entrepreneur and businessman. He is co-founder of Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (BDA), which provides promotional marketing services,[1] and is also part owner of NHL team, the Seattle Kraken.[2]
Business Career[edit]
Deutsch co-founded[3] Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (BDA) in 1984 while a senior in high school with his friend Eric Bensussen, who was in college at the time. Deutsch and Bensussen began making and selling promotional buttons for local Seattle teams while in their mid-teen years.[4]
In 2008, Deutsch founded the Quality Certification Alliance (QCA), a coalition dedicated to ensuring accountability[5] and independent validation of corporate responsibility in the promo industry’s supply chain. He served on the board for 10 years, 8 years as president, before stepping down in 2018.[6]
Awards and Recognition[edit]
In June 2022, Deutsch was named a Puget Sound Business Journal Middle Market honoree[7], which recognizes the leaders that may fly under the radar, but create economic opportunities.
Seattle Kraken NHL Franchise Co-Ownership[edit]
In September 2018, The Seattle Times reported that Deutsch was one of seven minority co-owners of the National Hockey League’s new Seattle franchise.[8]
Personal Life and Charitable Work[edit]
Deutsch was born in Seattle and resides[9] just outside the city with his family.
In 2013, Deutsch appeared on season 3, episode 9 of ABC-TV’s Secret Millionaire.[10] During the episode, he worked with two Phoenix, Arizona businesses supporting victims of domestic violence.[9] The episode aired nationally, Sunday, August 11th at 8:00 PM on the ABC Television Network.
Deutsch appeared on the program in honor of Susan Brockert, a friend and longtime BDA employee who was murdered[11] by her boyfriend during a retreat in 2011. Deutsch wrote[12] about the impact of this event on his colleagues and company in Inc. Magazine in 2012.
