Jay Nygard (born June 24, 1965) is an American business owner and media personality. Nygard is most known for his legal disputes regarding wind turbines that were placed on his property, earning him the nickname "The Turbine Guy". One of these legal battles sent him to jail which generated worldwide media publicity and garnered nearly 20 million views, launching his social media platform.[1] Jay Nygard founded Go Green Energy, LLC in 2008 with the mission of bringing the latest renewable and energy-efficient technologies to the marketplace like the vertical axis wind turbines that made him famous. [2] He is a B-level green energy cult hero who advocates for property rights and the right to harness renewable energy. As a climate activist he has had his opinions on green energy published in an article in the "Star Tribune" and "The News-Press" and coined the term The Green Pill™.[3] [4]
Background[edit]
Nygard was born on June 24, 1965, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Nygard graduated from Orono High School in 1983. Nygard served in the US Navy as a nuclear power machinist mate.[5] He received a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota in 1996. He was elected to the Orono City Council in 1998. He is the only US Technical Representative and Distributor for Hi-VAWT Technology Corporation of Taiwan.
In The Media[edit]
Since being jailed Nygard has been in the media across the U.S and internationally numerous times. In Minnesota, he has been featured in the "Star Tribune" for his wind turbines and associated legal battles multiple times. In Florida, he was featured in the Pine Island Eagle and other local news sources for supporting his neighbor's electrical needs when the power was out for a week after Hurricane Irma and on a "WGCO-FM" special about sustainability. In Colorado, he has been featured for rescuing stranded passengers out of an overturned SUV in "Winter Park, Colorado". [6] Recently he was in the news for reporting on a 58-foot yacht called "The Seanote" being stuck on frozen "Lake Minnetonka" and for using his "Youtube" platform to aid his neighbors after "Hurricane Ian".[7] [8]
