Jennifer Joseph (American artist)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jennifer Joseph (b. 1966)is a multidisciplinary artist. whose work investigates themes of order, chaos, light and color, and is realized in paintings and sculptural installations. Joseph generates systems to allow visual chaos and chance to emerge, thus creating work that begins to mimic nature. Her paintings are more ordered. Deconstructing the act of painting, one eventually realizes paintings are made by individual brush strokes to create a cohesive visual experience. Her painting process involves the repetitive act of laying down one brush stroke at a time, side by side, so that the act of painting becomes self-evident. The repetitive action creates a rhythm that culminates in a meditative state—each painting is an offering of mindfulness. Generally, her work involves repetition of one thing many thousands of times to create a complex visual situation from a very simple one.

Jennifer Joseph spent her early years in eastern Pennsylvania. She received a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia in 1991, and subsequently spent 25 years working and exhibiting in Santa Fe, NM. Her work is included in several prominent private and corporate collections, the permanent collection of the New Mexico Museum of Art and in the collection of the State of New Mexico. She is currently based in Los Angeles, CA.
