Amateur career[edit | edit source]

John Axelsen is a very successful young Danish amateur golfer.

John Axelsen was born in Holbæk, Denmark and was introduced to golf by his farther when he was 5.

Already in a young age he showed an unusual talent, winning English boys u/13 (Reid Trophy) and medals at the European Boys u/16 championship (European Young Masters) in both 2012[1], 2013[2] and 2014[3]

He was selected as the first Danish boys for the European team at Junior Ryder Cup for the first time in 2014 after winning the Mcgregor Trophy[4] setting new course record at Rattclif-on-Trent and new tournament record the same place. And finishing the qualification with a second place at the European Young Masters [5]. 2 years later he was selected again but opted instead to play for Denmark at the World Amateur Team Championship Eisenhower Trophy in Cancun, Mexico.

At the age of 16 he was selected as the youngest male player ever, to play for the Danish National Mens team at the European Amateur Team Championship in Finland. He has won bronze two times at the European Team Championship with the Danish National Team. In 2016[6] and 2018 [7]

In 2016 he received a wild card to the European Tour Event Made in Denmark[9] , which was the last qualifying event for the European team for Ryder Cup. He made the cut and Swedish top player and Order of Merit winner Robert Karlsson stated that: "He is one of the best amateurs I have seen for a long time. And I've seen many."[10] John Axelsen finished 40th at 282 (-2)[11]
