John Coyne (Footballer)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

John Coyne (born 29 December 1980 in Wigan, England) is a former footballer for Wigan Athletic, former Director of English Rugby League Club, Swinton Lions and current Director of English football National League side, Altrincham FC.[1]

Career[edit]

He began his career at Wigan Athletic, signing for the club in 1997 and playing under John Deehan, remaining at the club until 2000. Upon leaving Wigan Athletic John had spells with Clitheroe, Harrow Borough and Skelmersdale United. Since finishing his football career, John has worked for Venditan, a software agency in Manchester and is currently Managing Director.[2]

Rugby League[edit]

It was announced in 2018 that John had joined the executive board of Swinton Lions Rugby League, joining Chairman Andy Mazey who took over the club in 2017.[3] Under the guidance of this board, Swinton enjoyed their highest league finish (9th in the Championship - the second tier of English Rugby League) for two decades. At the end of 2019, controversial plans emerged to re-name Swinton Lions to Manchester Lions. These plans were met with mixed feelings and the board resigned en-masse due to what they saw as a vote of no confidence from the support base. [4]

Football[edit]

In November 2019 it was announced that Coyne had accepted an invitation to join the Altrincham FC board of directors. [5]
