John Kaires

LTC John Kaires enlisted in the United States Army in February 1985 as an Infantryman (11B) and completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Benning, GA. His first assignment was as with the 2nd Armed Calvary Regiment. He departed Active Duty in 1989 and joined the USAR and transitioned to Military Police (95B). He joined Army ROTC in 1991 at Hofstra University, New York and was commissioned as a Military Police Office in January 1994. Following the Military Police Officer Basic Course at Fort McClellan, Alabama, LTC Kaires was assigned as a Platoon Leader/Executive Officer to the 423rd Military Police Company (CS), from April 1994 to May 1998. During this period he deployed to Bosnia in support of Operation JOINT GUARD. LTC Kaires graduated from the Military Police Officer Advanced Course at Fort Leonard wood, Missouri in 1999 and was assigned to the 310th Military Police Battalion. He served as the Operations Officer and HHC, Company Commander until December 2002. He completed the Combined Arms Service Staff School in 2001 at Fort Hamilton, NY. LTC Kaires was next assigned as the Battalion S3 and deployed for OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM from Jan 2003 to April 2004. From May 2004 to August 2004 LTC Kaires served as the Mobilization Officer for the 77th Regional Sustainment Command at Fort Totten, New York.From 2004 to 2007 LTC Kaires was the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Hofstra University (ROTC) where he served as the Executive Officer and Training Officer. He completed the Intermediate Level Education Course in 2007 and the Army Warrior Operations Course in 2008 at Fort Leavenworth, KS. In 2009, he was assigned to the 800th Military Police Brigade where he served as the Brigade S4 and Operations Officer. In 2011, he was reassigned to the 333rd Military Police Brigade as the Brigade Operations Officer. During this period he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. While in Afghanistan, LTC Kaires served as the Base Defense Officer In Charge for Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan under Task Force 455 until his present assignment as the Professor of Military Science at Bucknell University (ROTC), Lewisburg, PA. LTC Kaires holds a Bachelors of Business Association (BBA) in Finance from Hofstra University of New York, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Regis University in Denver, Colorado. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4OLCs), Army Commendation Medal (1SLCs), Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3OLCs). He has also been awarded the Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge. LTC Kaires and his wife of 16 years, Michelle, have three children: Kayleigh (13), Matthew and Nicholas (10). They currently reside in Saint James, New York.
