John Thomas (born 22 June 1985) is an American political strategist, pollster, author, media personality, political commentator and the President and CEO of Thomas Partners Strategies; a Republican advertising and strategy organization.[1][2][3]

Career[edit]

Thomas earned his Bacherlors degree in Advertising from Southern Methodist University and his Master in Public Policy from Pepperdine’s School of Public Policy.[4][5]

As a political strategist, Thomas works on political campaigns throughout the nation via strategy consulting as well as creation of television ads for ballot measures, political campaigns, corporations, non-profit organizations and universities. Thomas has created ads in recent past which have prevailed against various main stream political adversaries. Due to his notability in this regard, Thomas was named by Los Angeles Times as the “Billy the Kid of Political Battles”.[6][7][8]

Thomas has been a Chief Strategist for Republican candidates at nearly every level of office across the country, from County Supervisor to District Attorney to U.S. Senator. The Los Angeles Times has called him “Billy the Kid of Political Battles” for having created some of the most cutting-edge, compelling ads of the 2016 election cycle.[8] Thomas was noted as the Distinguished Alum of the Year in 2017 at Pepperdine’s School of Public Policy. He also received the Campaign and Elections Magazine Rising Star Award in 2017.[7]

An author and a media practitioner in the local and national scene, Thomas is a political commentator and has appeared on national radio and local cable news stations like Fox News, CNN, FOX 11, PBS, and varied national media portals like Daily Caller, Politico, RollCall, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Campaigns and Elections Magazine among others.[7] Thomas, as a Southern California radio personality, provides political analysis in his weekly segment “This Week in Trump World” on KFI AM 640’s Bill Handel Show.[9] Thomas was an official CNN Political Commentator throughout the 2016 and 2018 cycles.[10]

Thomas has been involved in various civic activities over the course of his career and has been an active member of SMU’s Los Angeles alumni. He also served on the boards of House Ear Institute, Pepperdine’s School of Public Policy and CalWatchdog.[7]

2018 Election Cycle[edit]

Thomas Partners Strategies was the consulting firm for Todd Spitzer’s successful bid for Orange County District Attorney, unseating Tony Rackauckas in California’s November 2018 Midterm Election. TPS became notable for defeating a twenty-year law enforcement incumbent in a cycle where Republican loses were rife, including all four House of Representatives seats flipping to Democratic hands. Chief Strategist Thomas led Spitzer’s campaign and created the Television Ads that culminated in his victory.[11]
