Reality television appearances[edit]

The Real World[edit]

Johnny Bananas made his reality television debut on the 17th installment of The Real World: Key West on MTV. There he was tasked to live with six people with diverse personalities in the same house. Cameras followed the cast members everywhere they went, and filmed their every day lives and personal relationships. The show was filmed in Key West, Florida, and originally aired on February 28th, 2006.

The Challenge[edit]

In 2006, Johnny was cast on the 13th season of The Challenge, which at the time took cast members from The Real World and Road Rules, and put them through a series of physical and mental challenges to win money and prizes. After each challenge, an elimination round takes place with the loser being eliminated from the show. At the end, the top competitor wins a large amount of money and the title of challenge champion.

Devenanzio has appeared on 18 challenges to date, the most of any cast member in the show's 34 season history. He has also won the most challenges, winning six and netting him a combined $685,543 in prize money.

Challenge Spin-off Shows[edit]

Along with The Challenge, Bananas has appeared in two spin-off shows from the series. These shows take competitors from the main show and put them against athletes and celebrities from outside the show. Instead of the prize money going to the contestants, the money is donated to a charity of the members choice. These shows have traditionally been used as gap fillers in between the airings of the actual seasons of The Challenge.

In 2017, Johnny participated in The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros, which saw ten "champs" or people from The Challenge against 10 "pros" or professional athletes from various sports. Bananas was eliminated in the second episode of the season, raising $1000 for the Special Olympics. Later that year, he participated in the second installment of the show, The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars. There Bananas made it all the way to the final, coming in first place for the season and raising $50,000 for The Special Olympics. There has been a lot of debate in the media and within the fan base as to whether or not the spin-off shows count towards the competitors total challenge championships. The debate stems from the show using the same cast and concept, however the daily challenges and eliminations are known to be easier than the main show and the competitors don't take home any of the prize money themselves. If counted, it would bring Johnny's total to seven. However, The Challenge producers themselves have been noted as to not including the spin-off series in the total when talking about the challengers.

Season Team Finish Charity Money Raised
1 - Champs vs. Pros Champs Episode 2 (out of 6) Special Olympics $1,000
2 - Champs vs. Stars Champs 1st Place Special Olympics $50,000

1st Look[edit]

Shortly after filming The Challenge: Final Reckoning, NBC announced that Johnny Bananas would be the new host of their hit show 1st Look.[1] The show is centered around the host traveling around the world and embarking on various activities to give viewers a first hand look at various subjects. Johnny made his first debut on the show on September 29th, 2018.
