In Belgium, there are now 17 Junior Enterprises spread over the 3 regions of the country. These Junior Entreprises offer consultancy services in a varied field of application to companies.
Junior Enterprise Concept[edit]
A Junior Enterprise (JE) is a non-profit organization, created and managed exclusively by higher education students, which provides consulting services to companies, institutions and individuals.
Junior-Enterprises are identical to real companies, with the main objective of improving the learning of their members through practical experience.
History[edit]
EAA Consult is the first Belgian Junior Enterprise. It was founded in 1991 by business administration students from the University of Liège.
In 1996, the first Belgian Junior company in a technical field was created at the Université catholique de Louvain: Junior Ingénieur Conseil.
On 4 March 1998, the Belgian Junior Enterprises decided to join together in a confederation, following the creation of the Belgian Confederation of Junior Enterprises (BCJE), the precursor of Junior Enterprises Belgium. The same year, the BCJE joins the European Confederation of Junior Enterprises. Unfortunately, after internal management problems, the BCJE abandons its confederated structure and leaves the European Confederation of Junior Enterprises in 2004.
Still in 2004, a new structure of the Belgian network is created, the Belgian Federation of Junior Enterprises (FBJE) is created. This new network continues to grow and joins the European Confederation of Junior Enterprises in July 2006.
In 2007, the FBJE sees for the first time in its existence the development of a JE from Flanders, Academics For Companies. Following this event as well as its entry into the European Confederation of Junior-Enterprises, it decided to take the non-French-speaking name JADE Belgium.
After several years of stagnation, the network is growing strongly and the Junior Enterprise concept will regain popularity in Belgium from 2016 onwards.
In 2019, a rebranding is launched throughout the European network: JADE Belgium becomes Junior Enterprises Belgium.
JE Belgium's Missions[1][edit]
Support[edit]
JE Belgium helps and supports Junior Enterprises to improve and gain in quality. An audit of each structure is carried out every year, and trainings are given according to the needs of the Junior Entrepreneurs.
Develop[edit]
JE Belgium is closely supervising the new structures (Junior Initiatives) and making contact with student organisations sharing the same common interests in order to extend the Belgian network of Junior Enterprises. The confederation also organises annual events to enable young entrepreneurs to meet each other.
Represent[edit]
JE Belgium defends the interests of the Belgian network at national and international level. The association also tries to improve the visibility of Junior Enterprises in the business world and to promote the concept of Junior Enterprises.
