Kalika Yap (née Kalika Nacion; born January 31, 1970) is a Filipino-American inventor and entrepreneur best known as the founder and CEO of several businesses in the fashion and brand industries, including the Citrus Studios, Luxe Link and The Waxing Company.[1][2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Yap was born in Quezon City, Philippines in 1970 and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii with her family at an early age to escape martial law. She holds a degree in broadcast journalism from New York University.

Following her graduation, she worked for multiple news channels and shows such as The Today Show, Bloomberg and CNBC until her moving to Los Angeles in 1996 to venture into entrepreneurship.[4]

Professional career[edit]

In 1998, Yap founded Citrus Studios, an interactive design and consulting firm focused on the development and implementation of engaging and effective websites for corporations, institutions, museums and educational institutions.[5]

In 2005, Yap invented and patented Luxe Link, a fashion accessory that acts as an instant hanger to keep women's purses off the floor.[6] The sales for Luxe Link reached $1 million in revenues in 2008, with licensing deals from Cole Haan, Michael Kors, The Beatles, Hello Kitty, Wells Fargo, Live Nation, and other major brands.

In 2009, Yap launched The Waxing Company; the first high-end waxing salon in Honolulu, United States.

Awards[edit]

In 2021, Yap received the Rising Star Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners. She was honored by the Anti-Defamation League in 2021 for her entrepreneurial efforts.[7]

Yap has served on the Board of Trustees of the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California since 2013.[8]

Personal life[edit]

She is married to husband Rodney Yap. The couple have two daughters, Malia and Kailani.[9][10]
