Kannur Shareef is an Indian Mappila singer in Mappila Song. He was born Anjukandi, Kannur City, in an orthodox Muslim family to MC Moossakkutty and Puthalon Afsath. Shareef was the 2nd son of the couples. He lost his father when he was a kid. When he was studying in school his music teacher identified his music talent and requested his mother to send him to learn music. His uncles were not happy to send him to study music. However, his mother succeeded to convince the family and send him to his first guru Vishalakshi teacher. Later he was trained in classical music by M N Rajeev. He was certified by AIR in light music. He is a familiar name in Mappila Music Industry to the Keralites worldwide. Kannur Shareef, who is popular for rendering numerous Mappila songs, has also sung over 7000 Album songs during the years 1994's to Present. His first Mappila song was "Kinakkili" for the Album Thanima in 1994. His popular songs include "Darajappu", "E Kannu", "Allahuvintedabu", "Thajdare" and "Aattel Nebi". After the huge success of his Mappila songs, he became an accepted stage performer and has completed more than 5000 stage shows in India and more than 1000 stage shows in Gulf Countries and Europe[2][3]. Apart from stage shows, Kannur Shareef has been a prominent singer for "Mehfil Nights" in Gulf countries, which is a combination of both Malayalam and Hindi Gazal songs.

Career[edit]

Kannur Shareef started his career by publishing music albums and the popularity of his albums gave him the opportunity to become an accepted stage performer. Pioneer Malayalam television channel Asianet TV opened their door for him as a Jury for reality shows. He began his career in playback singing in movieGod for Sale’. He has shared the stage with most of the famous playback singers including K. S. Chithra, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, P. Jayachandran, MG Sreekumar, M. Jayachandran, Bijibal, Gopi Sundar, Sithara Krishnakumar, Jyotsna Radhakrishnan, Manjari, Rimy Tomy, Renjini Jose, Afsal, G. Venugopal, K. G. Markose, Balabhaskar, Sujatha Mohan. Kannur Shareef has received several awards for his contribution to the Mappila Songs industry[4]. Recently, he received the Best Male Singer award from Kairali TV[5].

Kannur Shareef is married to Fasila K.P. They have two Children's, Fathimath Shifa and Muhammed Shibil.
