Karthik Nayaka [1] (born 11 December 1992)[2] is a Journalist and a Shortfilm Director, editor, writer and cinematographer who majorly work in the Kannada short films. Karthik is currently working as a Correspondent to City Today
Early life[edit]
Karthik’s father, Kumar is a retired officer from Canara Bank. He completed his schooling and Pre University at Maharshi Public school in Mysuru and completed a bachelor's course in science from Yuvaraja’s College. He then did his M.Sc in Electronic Media from the University of Mysore.
Career[edit]
During his bachelor degree in Yuvaraja’s college, Karthik started making short films and music videos. He along with Harini (his wife) and Krishnamurthy founded Nirantara Creations [3] - a short filmmaking team based out in Mysuru. He started his venture into short filmmaking with a short film ‘One Second Pls’ [4] which bagged him awards at various short film festivals. He then made Mr. Thief, Sanjaya[5] and few episodes of Ganchali Bidi Kannada Mathadi. He also directed a Music video ‘Arada Gaaya’ [6] starring Bindu Gowda and Dakshath Gowda.
He then directed a Kannada featurette film titled ‘Paachi- Paapi Chiraayu’[7] starring Rajani Bharadwaj and Shreyas at a very low budget which was release in mini theatres across the Mysuru.
Karthik later took a break from the film making and ventured into the print media soon after his Masters. He joined as a correspondent to CityToday a local evening English daily in Mysuru
Awards[edit]
Karthik’s directorial debut One Second Pls won awards at various short film festivals.
His short film One Second pls won- Best film at Revamp[8] -2015- a state level short film competition conducted by REVA University
His short film One Second Pls concept award at Iconics-2014- a state level short film festival conducted by PES College Mandya
His short films One second pls and Sanjaya were short listed in Cinematics 2014 and 2015 respectively
His Film Someputa was awarded best film in the 48 hours filmmaking competition organised by Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering
