Kasper Guldager Jensen (born 1976) is a Danish architect. He is founder of the innovation company GXN, and senior partner in the architecture firm 3XN[1]. He has distinguished himself in the area of sustainable design and architecture with new materials, which has helped him win several international awards, including the European Union Environment Award 2016[2] and the Energy Globe Award 2015[3]. Beside practise Kasper also holds two visiting professorships, with Delft University 2018, and University of Calgary 2018.

Background[edit]

Kasper Guldager Jensen graduated from Aarhus School of Architecture in 2005. He also has a Master of Architecture degree from Sci-Arc from California in 2004.

In 2006, he joined 3XN and today is director of the innovation company GXN, a division of 3XN which was established with the objective of innovating and integrating green strategies in today's and future architecture.

Alongside his position as senior partner in 3XN and director of GXN, since 2006 he has also conducted research for GXN and has released publications such as "Building a Circular Future[4]” and the ”Cradle to Cradle manual for Buildings”. He has also given lectures at, among other places, Yale, Stanford and Columbia university in the United States, the AA School of Architecture in the UK, the AIA Conference in Melbourne, as well as a TEDx[5] talk in Copenhagen on material innovation.

Major projects[edit]

For 3XN, Kasper Guldager Jensen has been involved in major construction projects such as Quay Quarter Sydney[6], Toronto Bayside[7], Reinvent Paris, Mumbai Towers[8] and Kubus in Berlin. In Copenhagen, he is behind buildings like the Royal Arena[9], The Blue Planet and Bella Sky Hotel.

Kasper Guldager Jensen is furthermore behind GXN projects such as Circularity Lab for Google, Noma Foodlab[10] in Copenhagen, Lego Idea Studio in Billund, and the Learning from Nature Pavilion at Louisiana Museum for Modern Art.

Prizes[edit]

In 2017, Kasper Guldager Jensen won the Sustainable Element[11], an award to honor a person who have made a footprint in the built environment.

In 2016 he won the EU environmental award[3], which is awarded every second year to Europe's most environmentally conscious companies.

In 2015 he won the Building of the Year award[12] for Green Solution House on Bornholm as well as the Energy Globe Award, the Urban Green Innovation Award and the JEC Innovation Award.

Affiliations[edit]

In addition to his many national and international projects in 3XN and GXN, he uses his extensive knowledge of circular design to teach the future generation of architects. In Denmark, he teaches at Aarhus School of Architecture and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, while in Sweden he teaches at Chalmers University.

Kasper Guldager Jensen is a member of the Architecture School's advisory board[13], where he uses his knowledge in innovative and sustainable architecture, to advise on how Danish architectural education should be developed to accommodate the future's labour market.

He is also chairman of the interdisciplinary project Urban Green[14], member of the Ministry of Growth and Business advisory board for Circular Economy, the Ministry of Culture’s Censor Corps, as well as member of the Danish Design Council[3], the Arts Council, the Academic Architectural Association and Danish Architectural Press.
