Sgt. Kelvin Bernard Ansari, Sr. (July 8, 1968 – May 11, 2019) was an American retired US Army veteran and police officer killed in the line of duty in Savannah, Georgia[1]

Biography[edit]

Kelvin B. Ansari, Sr. was born on July 8, 1968 in Albany, Georgia to Eddie Ansari and Ruby Rivers.[2] He was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.[3] Ansari enlisted in the US Army in 1988 and proudly served until he was honorably retired after his 21 years of serving. Upon his retirement from the military, he proceeded to join the police force, working 10 years for the Savannah Police Department.[4] He served in Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. He received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and Southwest Asia Service Medal during his service.[2]

Personal Life[edit]

He has 3 sisters, Sandra, Marthena and Felicia and 1 brother, Kenneth.[5] He was survived by his wife Charlotte and his 6 children Danval, Kelvin Jr., Isaiah, Niya, Asia and Michael.[2][6][7]

Death[edit]

While investigating a robbery that took place, Sgt. Kelvin Ansari was shot and killed by a gunman who later died after he was also shot after he pointed a gun at responding officers.[8] He was laid to rest in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery on Saturday, May 18, 2019.[9]
