Early life[edit]

Matthews ( better known by his stage name; KIDD ) was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. According to KIDD his interest in music was sparked at the age of 15, when he started experimenting with freestyling. In those early years, KIDD used to record his music with a cellphone before uploading them to YouTube and Soundcloud. KIDD uploaded his music to a website where he was evaluated by his peers, one artist used to give him some constructive criticism which he used to improve his work and style. KIDD credits the development of his early rapping style to one of the collaborators on this website. KIDD suffered from mental problems in his late teens and has credited much of his recovery and happiness today to his dog. He used to take his dog for a daily walk and this helped him to overcome the mental problems that he had faced. Matthews's early life was very unstable, his father had committed suicide when Matthews was just six months old and he was subsequently raised by his mother. Matthews had moved many times during his early years and struggled to make friends.

Musical career[edit]

Musical background[edit]

KIDD has been active since 2015 and released several songs during his career. He has cited Stitches, Eminem, d12, Haystak and King Gordy as his inspiration. He uses his music as an outlet for his emotions and writes lyrics which expresses his feelings and thoughts. KIDD has collaborated with several artists including lil ajo, Uncle Sam, rob shaker, and the Perth hip hop scene. He uses YouTube as platform for releasing his music. KIDD has said that his "sad" music represents what he felt, but couldn't say.

Songs written / recorded by KIDD[edit]

Break in career / return to music[edit]

Due to financial problems KIDD briefly took a break from music, but returned in early 2017. KIDD credits his return to music to Breakdown Studios and recorded his first two professional recordings at this studio. These songs were called Pain and Freestyle respectively.

Musical style & influences[edit]

KIDD uses freestyle rap to express himself and has been influenced by the work of other artists such as Stitches, Eminem, d12, Haystak, King Gordy and Vinny Paz. KIDD considered himself at first to be a follower of the "horrorcore" genre but later decided that the genre was not his style.

Personal life[edit]

KIDD has described his early personal life as tumultuous. In his early teens he had moved house more than 40 times. He is known to have said that this has made a profound impact on his ability to develop meaningful relationships with others. KIDD lost his biological father at the age of six months and his mother subsequently remarried. His stepfather discouraged him from listening to rap music, according to him this music had a very negative effect on KIDD. In mid 2015 KIDD's elder brother found a apprenticeship for him at a local electrician. KIDD had every expectation of being hired at the end of said apprenticeship but was very disappointed when the owner decided not to offer him permanent employment. KIDD has said that this experience had a detrimental effect on his mental health and that it pushed him to near breaking-point. He decided to return to his family and lived with his mother and younger brother. This experience made KIDD lose his focus on music, after actively making efforts to re-focus himself he was able to continue his creative work.

Unreleased work[edit]

KIDD is currently in the process of releasing new / unreleased work on several social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.

Criminal charges[edit]

KIDD was arrested in 2017 on suspicion of blackmail with the intent to gain a benefit after threatening to report a alleged pedophile to police if he did not pay an undisclosed amount of money to KIDD. KIDD was later ordered by a court to report to corrective services officers weekly for a four month period as a result of this incident. In 2018 KIDD was again arrested on charges of creating a false impression of being in possession of a firearm. The matter is still pending at present.
