Kiff No Beat is an Ivorian hip-hop band from Abidjan, formed in 2009. The group begins by making a name for itself on the stages of Abidjan before making itself more widely known during the television hip-hop contest Faya Flow.

Biography[edit]

The group originally consisted of Gnahoré Okou Kamille (Black K), N'wolé Brice (Elow'n) (Who are cousins), and Bassa Zéréhoué Diyilem (Didi B), who performed as KNB (Kamille & Brice). In 2009, the group merged with Jekboyz, which consisted of Kouakou Jonathan Charley (Joochar) and Konan Franck Guy Mares (ElJay). The two groups together took on the name "Kiff No Beat". The name is an invitation to pay attention to the works, actions, and messages of the group through its music.

Kiff No Beat is an Ivorian rap band known for infusing various musical genres in their music, for instance R&B, Ragga/Dancehall, Rap and Pop. In 2010, Kiff No Beat won the largest hip-hop contest in Côte d'Ivoire, Faya Flow. The contest was organized by Orange Côte d'Ivoire and the JACH (Active Youth of Hip-Hop Culture). Didi B explains the group "won a laptop and 200 000 FCFA. With this money, we went to see Shadocris: "We give you the 200 000, the cell phone too. Make us titles, we'll manage with. Shado, it's our Dr. Dre. He comes from the same neighborhood as Black K and Elow'n but it's another rapper who linked us. From our first meeting, we learned that he was too talented. He made us listen to his stuff before and we thought he had the American spirit, the thing we were looking for."

Fame[edit]
